Resolution No. 171 series of 2023
A RESOLUTION HUMBLY REQUESTING HON. MAYOR ALLAN S. DE LEON, MPA, TO COMMEMORATE THE LIBERATION DAY OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF TAYTAY ON FEBRUARY 22, 2023
WHEREAS, the Philippine Veteran Affairs Office (PVAO) has declared February 22, 1945 as the Liberation Day of the Municipality of Taytay from the Japanese occupation;
WHEREAS, Resolutions 19 and 20 series of 1945 have declared February 23, 1945 as the Liberation Day of Taytay honoring the US Forces who fought with our local troops;
WHEREAS, in a letter from the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office regarding a legislative inquiry on the discrepancy of the dates, it was mentioned that, “the Liberation of Taytay should be commemorated in honor of the heroism and sacrifices of Filipino World War II veterans in dismantling enemy presence in the area. In Taytay area, not only the 1st Cavalry Division should be recognized, but also the combined efforts of the 42nd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army and 4th Infantry Regiment of the Philippine Constabulary with the assistance of the Hunters ROTC and Marking’s Fil-American Troops (MFAT) guerillas that predominantly pave the liberation campaign”;
WHEREAS, in the same letter, PVAO highlighted that, “[w]hile the liberation day of Taytay during World War II is now being revisited, the PVAO strongly recommends to consider our thrust of honoring the roles of Filipino veterans during World War II”;
WHEREAS, in the past, the Taytay Veterans Affairs Office has been celebrating the Municipal Liberation Day every 22rd day of February by hearing mass and holding small gatherings with the sons and daughters of local veterans;
WHEREAS, the Municipal Government of Taytay shall provide the necessary reverence and accord to our freedom fighters by initiating proper commemoration activities;
WHEREAS, the Municipal Government of Taytay may conduct a wreath laying ceremony every February 22 at the Veterans Park for this momentous date in the history of our town;
WHEREAS, this Sangguniang Bayan recommends that this commemoration be properly coordinated with the local Veterans Affairs Office, the sons and daughters of local veterans, and the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, as it is hereby resolved, by the 12th Sangguniang Bayan of Taytay, Rizal, in session duly assembled, to HUMBLY REQUEST HON. MAYOR ALLAN S. DE LEON, MPA, TO COMMEMORATE THE LIBERATION DAY OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF TAYTAY ON FEBRUARY 22, 2023.
RESOLVED FURTHER, that copies of this Resolution be furnished and forwarded to the Office of the Mayor and all concerned offices for their information and appropriate action.
